Program Editor
Choosing the editing program ahead of time will dictate:
- So you have time to become familiar with the program in order to assist students when they need help.
- So the designated editors can receive training prior to the first day of editing.
- So there is time to install the program (if necessary) on enough computers for each group to have access.
All members of the groups must each have a job to feel significant, from teaching software as the student learns to creating the title design.


Cuts & Transitions
Cuts & Transitions provide video editing options by:
- deciding the scene length
- the transition type between scenes
- type of cute
- pacing
- type or style of video
Cut Types
- Hard Cut
- a scene that is finished abruptly, not an easy transition for viewers
- Jump Cut
- Scene that demonstrates time passing by showing a waiting period of time or repitition of shots.
- L Cut
- hearing a voiceover during different scenes
- shot starts with actor giving instructions, scene changes to view instructions in action, actor keeps being a voiceover.
- hearing a voiceover during different scenes
- J Cut
- viewer hearing audio of next video segment while seeing the current video segment.
- Action Cut
- camera cuts during and action scene.
- ball falls, lens moves from wide angle of ball to close up to the ball hitting the ground.
- camera cuts during and action scene.


Transitions
Transitions create smooth scene changes for the view.
Main transition options in editing:
- Dissolve
- Gradual fade from one video segment to the next.
- Fade
- solid color to a shot
- shot to a solid color
- fade to black
- fade from black
- fade to white
- fade from white.
- fade through black / white
- Wipe
- one video segment wipes over the previous video segment.
